BJP MP Dilip Ghosh stirred controversy with his recent comments targeting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, drawing condemnation from various quarters.
Ghosh, contesting from the Bardhaman-Durgapur seat in West Bengal, sparked outrage by insinuating that Banerjee lacked clarity regarding her origins. Dilip Ghosh said, '" Didi went to Goa and said, I am a girl from Goa. Went to Tripura and said that I am a girl from Tripura. They should first decide who the father is. It is not right to be everyone's daughter."
The remarks triggered sharp criticism, with West Bengal minister Shashi Panja asserting, "Dilip and BJP do not know how to respect women. This insult of Mamata should be answered."
The contentious remarks by Ghosh have intensified the political discourse in the region, with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) planning to lodge a complaint against him with the Election Commission. TMC leader Sushmita Dev condemned Ghosh's comments, stating, "Dilip Ghosh has dirty thoughts towards women. This thinking is very different from RSS. The public will answer this dirty thinking in the 2024 elections." Meanwhile, Congress leader Supriya Srinet criticized Ghosh's past, highlighting his shift from Medinipur to Durgapur, suggesting discontent within the BJP ranks.
